I’ve been creative off and on for many years for my own edification, but did not get serious about my art until after the 2008 market crash – go figure.
My academic background was in anthropology, cultural geography, and critical theory, and currently I work as a spatial analyst trying to capture and model reality. I should also add that people who know me find it hard to believe that I was ever in the military, let alone a veteran of the 1991 Gulf War. These experiences have shaped my worldview and interpretation of both history and contemporary life.
I am almost entirely self-taught, expressing myself since I could first hold a crayon or brush. I started in oils at the age of 11 and also worked in colored pencil through early adolescence. I now predominantly use acrylics for their versatility.
For various reasons I put my creative drive on the back burner in favor of things I was told were more fundamentally important – a steady career, a home, a retirement account. Creative concepts still came to me, but they were relegated to quick renderings in a growing stack of sketch books. So after many years of denying my true nature, I’ve now devoted myself to artistic expression and the personal fulfillment that comes with it. I have over 20 years worth of ideas that I’m trying to get out, with new ideas always coming.
Enjoy!
